The Museum of the Cherokee Indian accepts donations to help carry out its mission “To preserve and perpetuate the history, culture, and stories of the Cherokees.”   Your gift is tax-deductible because the Museum is a non-profit organization with 501c3 status.  According to IRS rules we cannot assign a particular value to non-cash gifts.

Who: Anyone is welcome to donate to the Museum.  We will acknowledge your gift with publicity, or not, according to your wishes.

What: The Museum accepts cash, Cherokee artifacts, and archival materials as gifts, including prehistoric and historic items, photographs, manuscript materials, and books.  These are catalogued and accessible online at

Where and When: The Museum is open every day from 9-5 except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.

How: You may send a check, or ship items to us.  If you would like to bring a donation in person, please contact Barbara R. Duncan to arrange a time.  Call 828 497-3481 x1012 or email

Why:  We need your help!  Although we are a non-profit, we operate with a businesslike approach, and generate about 75% of our budget from Box Office sales and Museum Store sales.  20% comes from grants and donations, and about 5% from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.  We work hard and appreciate any support you can give.
