Salary
$15.00 hourly

Purpose/Role
The Research Intern will assist in the collection, digitization, and organization of exhibition research materials in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Exhibition Research Plan. Interns will work closely with MCI’s Director of Education, Director of Collections and Exhibitions, Manager of Collections, and Registrar.

Responsibilities/Tasks
• Assist in the collection of archival materials by traveling to various archival facilities with the Director of Education and other MCI staff.
• Digitize archival materials that align with the research priorities in the Exhibition Research Plan.
• Edit digitized archival materials to be uploaded into MCI’s Digital Asset Management System (DAM).
• Upload and organize digitized archival materials into MCI’s DAM in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the Education Research Plan.
• Participate in interviews with elders and other community input events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Qualities
• Students pursuing a bachelor’s degree or post-secondary degree in History, Archival Sciences, Museum Studies, Archaeology, Anthropology, Native American/Indigenous Studies, or other related fields.
• A demonstrated commitment to preserving the history, culture, and stories of the Cherokee People.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
• Strong computer literacy skills.
• Self-driven initiative and performance of the highest quality, with keen attention to detail.
• Must comply with all MCI’s policies and procedures.
• Must be respectful of Cherokee cultural protocols and maintain confidentiality in regard to culturally sensitive information.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Other
• Reports directly to the Director of Education
• Work may be performed in various settings, including climate-controlled museums or archival collections, office settings, or scholarly settings.
• Will require travel, including overnight stays.
